Teacher: Celeste Flores

Join us at Seaport Studios to create a forged Viking knife. This is a great introduction to knife making, focusing on blade smithing techniques such as hammer control, tapering and beveling. You will have the opportunity to create a blade with an integral metal handle out of 1045 steel. 1045, when carefully forged can be heat treated in water. Celeste will go over the basics of heat treating and the heat treating process.

This knife is hard work, forging out a long handle by hand in a single day. We will put an edge on the blade in the class. Students can pay for lab time to come back and bring the blade into it’s full potential by sanding the whole thing down to a polished and professional finish.

This is a great process to go through before trying your hand at an impressive hand made blade with scales on the grip.
