Blacksmithing Classes

Easy, Intermediate, and Certification Level classes in our smithy by the shore

“Intro” Classes

Open to the Public, 16+, all humans, all skills, all abilities welcome!

Choose your project: big knife, sexy knife, tea spoon, or a posh bracelet. Maximum of 5-7 students per class means you get personalized instruction, no overcrowding, no rush.

Each class includes: a Safety Lecture, demonstration, guided forging time, free snacks, free coffee, free parking, and stickers.

After completing a class, you are eligible for a discounted membership to CBA, the California Blacksmith’s Association!

Intermediate Classes

These classes are demanding, and designed to be hard to accomplish in one visit. This is actually a good thing. A blacksmith works.

Choose your project: knife with a full-tang blade, a tomahawk, or a decorative sculpture worth displaying (coming soon).

Each class includes:demonstration, guided forging time, free snacks, free coffee, free parking, and stickers, plus a 30 day membership to Clay and Steel that allows forge access alongside seasoned smiths who love to help, and fellow students with varying experience.

Must attend at least one safety lecture. Safety lecture details here (students who previously completed an “Intro class” meet this requirement.)

For the Determined

These classes are for people with the drive to learn our trade in a somewhat disciplined and traditional way.

Historically, a blacksmith is the source for practically any tool you need. A professional blacksmith knows toolmaking, metallurgy, curie points, hammer dressing and always strives to use proper form with practiced movements to minimize long term injury. There may be homework.

If you take any of the classes offered here, you get an optional free year-long membership to CBA as well as a membership to Clay and Steel for 60 days.

(With training, students may gain eventual access to the fly and hydraulic presses! Restrictions apply.)
